The novel coronavirus, or ‘COVID-19’, has officially been characterised as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Although the virus is spreading rapidly outside of China, the number of new cases within China has begun to decline.
China has registered only 8 new cases in Hubei (the center of the outbreak) today, which is the first time since the outbreak that there were less than 10 new cases!
Although it seems that China is finally beating the coronavirus, the Chinese government are continuing work to control the spread of the virus and treat those who are ill.
More good news is that over 60,000 people who contracted the virus in China have recovered. With new infections declining and many successful recoveries, things are looking more positive for China.
However, elsewhere in the world it’s not all good news.
Italy, which now has over 12,000 cases of COVID-19, has instituted a nationwide lockdown, preventing citizens from freely moving around. The Italian president has stated that supermarkets and pharmacies are the only retailers to remain open.
